How We Decide What's Easy and What's Not
Every ranking comes from real sources—not vibes, not sponsored content, not one blogger's holiday.
If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine; it's lethal.
Vegan Travel Guide brings together two things that have long mattered to me: travel, because it shows you how places actually work once you arrive, and veganism, because in day-to-day life it has turned out to be the simplest and most reliable way I know to live well.
The aim is simply to help people who share that view see more of the world, without having to compromise along the way.
Below is how the guide works—and how we decide rankings.
We rank by how hard it actually is
Most vegan travel lists rank by who has the trendiest restaurants. We rank by whether you'll actually be able to eat.
Some places are effortless. Some are a nightmare. We tell you which is which—and we show our working.
The whole picture
Not just dedicated vegan spots. Supermarkets, labelling, language barriers, whether "vegan" even translates.
Sources you can check
Every ranking backed by published data. No "trust me, I went there once."
Honest about difficulty
8 levels from "order anywhere" to "bring your own food." We don't pretend everywhere is fine.
Kept current
All sources re-checked every January. Old data gets cut, not patched.
Where the rankings come from
Four steps. Multiple sources. Every ranking decision is made by a person.
Start with the numbers
Restaurant counts, density data, how many people in that country actually identify as vegan. Hard data first.
Cross-check with vegan media
Plant Based News, VegOut, The Guardian. What do multiple outlets agree on? Where do they disagree?
Reality-check with travel blogs
The stuff data misses: seasonal closures, language problems, what actually went wrong. Honest failures matter.
Assign a difficulty level
Every destination placed on our 8-level scale. When sources conflict, we dig deeper before deciding.
